Reece Guyon

  • EQUIP Alumnus
Reece Guyon had grown, studied, worked and lived in England, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Germany before he entered UC Davis. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering and a minor in history in June 2020.  At UC Davis, Guyon has worked in campus security and is an intern at the UC Davis Coffee Center, the first multidisciplinary university research center to address the challenges and needs of the coffee industry through a holistic approach to coffee science and education. Today he is an associate optical field engineer at LightRiver Companies (Concord, Calif.)

Congratulations, 2020 Big Bang! Finalists

113 teams—representing 315 aspiring entrepreneurs—entered the 20th annual UC Davis business  competition, the greatest number in Big Bang! history. The competition drew teams from across UC Davis, as well as from the Sacramento region and throughout California, the U.S. and the world.

Two UC Davis Startups Win Sacramento Region Innovation Awards

Japa, founded by UC Davis undergraduates Mathew Magno and Charles Chen, won a 2019 Sacramento Region Innovation Award for their smartphone app, which shows drivers the real-time availability of parking lots and structures. Vite Kitchens, founded by UC Davis alumni Tim and Tom Zheng, also received an award for their nutrient-rich instant ramen meals. Read the article >

Respira Labs wins prize money Big Bang 2019

Respira Labs and BioMilitus Awarded Prize Money

Respira Labs, founded by Maria Artunduage in 2018, won the top prize in the 19th annual UC Davis Big Bang! Business Competition for developing a wearable device that uses artificial intelligence and other data to predict and prevent COPD attacks. BioMilitus also won prize money for its work in breeding black soldier fly larvae for use in poultry farming and aquaculture. Innovation in Healthcare Tops 2019 Big Bang!

Maria Artunduaga, a translational physician-scientist, took home the $20,000 first prize in the 19th annual Big Bang! Business Competition at the University of California, Davis (held May 23). Her innovation: a wearable device that uses acoustic sensors, data signal processing and artificial intelligence to predict and prevent chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) attacks.
