This award recognizes and encourages teams whose technologies are focused and rooted in bioinnovation and that may benefit from the opportunity to work and prototype in the TEAM Molecular Prototyping and BioInnovation and/or electro-mechanical prototyping labs.

Global Sustainability & Social Innovation Awards

Up to two Global Sustainability and Social Innovation Awards are available for eligible UC Davis student teams during each session. To be eligible:

  1. The new venture must address at least two of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG’s). Teams must list the two UNSDG’s addressed by the venture when they register to compete.
  2. The team must be multidisciplinary, with UC Davis students from at least two different fields of study: for example, engineering and wildlife biology, or managerial economics and design.
  • Participation/Submission Guidelines
  • Participants must be currently enrolled students at the high school, undergraduate or graduate level.

Students may register for an upcoming session regardless of their participation in a previous session. We welcome new participants to join Little Bang! at any point. (For example, it is not necessary to compete in Sessions 1 and 2 to compete in Session 3.) We encourage students to take advantage of information and assistance provided in Big Bang! workshops and office hours (see below).

Students not selected for an award in any one session may refine their posters and/or submit new ideas for consideration in subsequent sessions. Award size increases as the series progresses.

Any business idea that won a Little Bang! award in a past academic year is not eligible to compete. For complete guidelines, rules and regulations for participation, please refer to the posted guidelines for each session.
