Bio
Michael Russelle S. Alvarez
Michael Russelle S. Alvarez is a Ph.D. student in Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Alvarez is dedicated to developing advanced mass spectrometry methods for studying human health glycobiology. Under the mentorship of Carlito Lebrilla, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Russelle investigates how glycobiology influence health, with a focus on protein glycosylation patterns linked to diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s.
Before joining UC Davis, Russelle earned a B.S. and two M.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of the Philippines. He has completed academic fellowships and internships at Academia Sinica, University Medical Center Groningen, and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).
