Bio

Iris Yoshiko Juanico

Iris Yoshiko Juanico is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the lab of Dr. Celina Juliano, where she studies regeneration in Hydra vulgaris, a freshwater animal related to jellyfish. Before her graduate work, she researched endoplasmic reticulum dynamics in meiotic Caenorhabditis elegans embryos. Juanico holds associate degrees from Los Angeles Harbor College and a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis. She is interested in increasing environmental sustainability, giving consumers greater choice, and providing lactose-free options for whey protein powder via microbial precision fermentation.
