Carla-Cristina Edwards
Carla-Christina (CC) Edwards is a Ph.D. student in the Entomology program, where her research is focused on investigating the physiological mechanisms underlying pyrethroid resistance in Aedes aegypti (the yellow fever mosquito). She was a McNair scholar at Baylor University, where she completed an undergraduate degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. She became interested in the mosquitos through undergraduate research studying the sensory and oviposition responses of Aedes aegypti in relation to the compound geosmin. She completed a master's at Texas Tech University, where she investigated the effects of microplastics in relation to the mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (the Asian tiger mosquito).
Outside the lab, Edwards helps her local community by getting involved in scientific outreach. She enjoys getting coffee with friends, running, and trying new crafts and recipes.
