Bio

Alan Kaufman

Alan Kaufmann is an M.Sc. student in Biosystems Engineering who studies biomanufacturing methods for turning waste into useful products. His research uses fermentation and fungi to connect agricultural byproducts with new applications, including converting side streams into animal feed.

With a technical background in sustainability frameworks and mechanical design, Alan has developed a cricket-rearing system funded by the Canadian Space Agency and explored mushroom production and fungal biofilms as a leather alternative. His long-standing interest in mycology and biological manufacturing drives his goal of creating practical products that reduce waste and environmental impact.
